Medibank Private Package Bonus transactions and your HICAPS Terminal
Medibank Private has advised HICAPS, that from 4 January 2010, members on eligible covers* will be able to claim their Package Bonus via HICAPS.
How do I process a Medibank Package Bonus transaction?
You simply process the claim transaction in the normal way.
For Medibank members on an eligible cover, the terminal will then prompt you to ask the member to select YES or NO to applying their Package Bonus to this Claim.
The member's available Package Bonus funds will be accessed up to the amount outstanding for the claim. The member cannot nominate how much of their Package Bonus they want to use.
If the member selects YES, a second transaction is sent to Medibank for approval. Once the transaction is authorised the screens displays APPROVED. The terminal then prints a transaction receipt for the patient to sign (you retain this for records) and a duplicate copy for the patient.
Please note: Package Bonus claims CANNOT be cancelled through the HICAPS terminal.
Please remember if you should need further assistance
call HICAPS help desk on 1300 65 08 52 or Medibank Private on 132 331.
*eligibility criteria apply.

Processing chip cards on the new HICAPS Terminal

HICAPS is pleased to announce that the new HICAPS terminal is now able to process chip cards, at no additional cost.
Chip cards, also known as smart cards or EMV cards aim to protect merchants and customers from counterfeit credit cards and fraudulent activity.
A chip card or smart card looks like a normal financial card except it has a small metal microchip located in the front of the card.
The changes you will notice include:
Processing: When your patient presents a card that is "chip" enabled, you will be required to insert the card into the terminal and complete the transaction rather than; swiping the card as you do currently.
Authorisation: Your patient will have the option to authorise their credit card transaction using their PIN or signing the receipt in the usual manner.
